Very Large Capacity Ovens (VLCO)
The range of production ovens (VLCO) was introduced in 1993 as an addition to the Genlab range. Primarily intended for the plastics industry, it was soon realised that the versatility and robust heavy duty construction made the VLCO‘s suitable for any type of industry where the use of heat treatment is a necessary part of the manufacturing process.
Constructed from heavy duty mild steel tubular framework, with a low mass, thin sheet inner chamber, insulated with high density rocksil, and finished with a hard wearing epoxy powder coat, the modular design means the ovens can be modified to suit most customer requirements. This method allows for efficient heating and cooling of the inner chamber and keeps running costs to a minimum
The VLCO range begins at 1,000 litres, and has the following specifications as standard
- Simple P.I.D. digital controller
- Independent digital overtemperature policeman
- Mechanical convection airflow
- Aluclad (Clad) interior or stainless steel as option
- Fully C.E compliant
- Double door opening
- Roof mounted fans
- Side mounted Rittal Contol cabinet rated to I.P. 65
- Temp range from 50ºc to 250ºc
- Temp fluctuation < + - 1ºc and temp variation < + - 5ºc (all testing is done on an empty chamber, measuring air temperatures only)
The specification can be augmented by adding a variety of non-standard features, including: - programmable controllers, chart recorders, process timers, etc. In addition to the electrical modifications we can offer a wide variety of door openings, shelving configurations, and trolleys.
All construction and testing is done on Genlab premises, based in the North West of England and we offer calibration and temperature profile certification to UKAS traceable standards.
The interest generated by the introduction of the VLCO range has meant a dramatic upturn in levels of production at Genlab, and we are currently supplying ovens to every area of industry, including the medical field and research and development, as well as large batch production ovens.
The five main areas of industry that we supply to include: - Plastics and Rubber, Automotive, Aerospace, Medical and Industrial. Listed below are a small sample of customers we have supplied.

Because of the diverse nature of heat treatment many of the ovens we produce deviate from the standard product. To ensure the customers’ needs are met economically and practically we have developed a highly experienced and technically aware team of people to assist the customer in every aspect of their project, from the initial quote, to final installation, including on site training, if necessary. It is because of this attention to detail, and complete customer satisfaction that the majority of our customers return to Genlab for further ovens.
